ABOUT THE ARTIST - LYNN ARMSTRONG COFFIN

I have been on an artistic course since early childhood and was trained as a Commercial Illustrator. Over the years in the advertising field I created a portfolio that spans everything from Portraits to Political Art, Children's Books to Logos. I now find myself exploring the world of Contemporary Art using new and unusual mediums.

In my travels and observations of the world around me I have become very anxious for our environment and conscious of the influence Humans are having on the planet. Wanting to express my concern, and feeling that we could all be better stewards of our home, I decided to reflect this in my creative process. In my newer work I have began using discarded materials whenever possible. They have enormous creative potential if you just take the time to look and re-create. From massive amounts of cardboard and building materials, to plaster, wrapping tissue, plastic and more. Incorporating these materials with my love of Black and White and my Graphic background I strive to blur the boundaries of conventional artistic materials and question WHAT IS ART?

I also use the universal symbol of a circle as my metaphor to relate the fact that we are all interconnected and live in a cyclical world where what we do today affects us tomorrow. The creative process of transforming something out of nothing is very rewarding and has helped me to create my own unique style.
